Cohort: 2

Where are you from?

West Side of Chicago.

What is your favorite field of study/topic?

Political science and journalism.

What is something you would like people to know about you as a student?

I work very hard to continue to sharpen my skills as a writer and artist. I enjoy engaging, informative conversations about life, business, and social justice.

What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?

It means I’m a part of a community and family that push me to give my all in every class while having the chance to reshape what I want my future to become by what I do today. Also, being a positive role model to my son, and making the people that count on me proud of the man I’m becoming.

What course has had the biggest impact on you and why?

RTVF 360: Writing Dramatic Television Pilots. This course introduced me to a writing style that I had never thought about using in my writing. And because of this course, I have learned to make my words paint pictures in the mind of my readers.

What is your favorite book or article that you have read in your NPEP classes?

I liked the book “Hidden Figures” because it told a moment in history when three Black women did some amazing work in hard times. I shared it with my goddaughter, Aubrey, and she liked it and the movie. It helped me to show her to never let anyone limit her power of what she wants to do in the world.

What assignment (paper, project, homework) have you found the most rewarding?

I was in the criminal justice writing class, and I wrote a paper called “The Breakfast Club.” It framed one of a few days a week, me, my celly, and my homie get together and have breakfast before I go to school. It was rewarding to see them smile after reading it, knowing they were proud of the work.
